📚 READING WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT // As part of Read Across America Week, Dr. Bitz stopped by Karol Maloney's first-grade classroom at Upper Allen Elementary School to share a story with her students. He read Be You by Peter H. Reynolds, a book that encourages young readers to be confident, creative, and true to themselves.

A great reminder that books can inspire our Wildcats to be exactly who they are meant to be. 💙

🧦 HEY ALICE, YOU KNOCKED OUR SOCKS OFF // A big shoutout to Alice Charland at Upper Allen Elementary for going above and beyond to help make Mr. McIntosh’s retirement celebration truly unforgettable. Alice composed an original song and taught it to students, giving them a meaningful way to honor and celebrate his impact. Her creativity and dedication helped create a heartfelt moment that brought the school community together and left a lasting memory for everyone involved. 💙

💙 JOY IN MOTION // Thanks to the generosity of our friends at the Wildcat Foundation, Terrin Sheeder’s MDS classroom at Upper Allen Elementary School has a brand-new swing — and with it, brand-new opportunities for joy.

For some of our Wildcats, especially those who use wheelchairs or have mobility challenges, winter weather means outdoor recess isn’t always quite as easily accessible. But thanks to this swing, movement, sensory support, and pure fun are brought right into their learning space.

📸 Mrs. Sheeder recently captured a truly heartwarming moment as several students took their very first ride. The smiles. The laughter. The pure excitement. It was the kind of joy that fills a room and stays with you long after the moment passes. We are so grateful for the Foundation’s support in helping create inclusive experiences where every Wildcat can move, play, and feel the thrill of the swing. 💙

This isn't the last you'll hear of this story. Stay tuned for a future follow up. 😊

(Shared with support of our proud parents.)

💙 SCHOOL SOCIAL WORK WEEK // This week, we recognize the incredible impact of our school social workers and the vital role they play in supporting students and families. They help navigate challenges, connect families with resources, and partner with staff to ensure students have what they need to be successful in school. Their work often happens quietly and behind the scenes — but it strengthens our entire Wildcat community.

Today we celebrate you. Every day we appreciate you. 💙

💜❤️ FRIENDSHIP, FUN & KINDNESS // On Thursday, many of our young Wildcats celebrated Valentine’s Day with crafts, games, laughter, and lots of smiles. While the day may often come with hearts and sweet treats, what truly stands out is the kindness, friendship, and sense of belonging our students and staff share with one another.

✨ LET’S GLOW CRAZY // Upper Allen Elementary students and their families had a glowing good time at the recent Glow Party — an event filled with bright lights, big smiles, and lots of Wildcat fun.

We’re grateful for our staff, volunteers, and organizers who go above and beyond to create meaningful experiences, both in and out of the classroom, that bring our school community together.

❄️ TWO-HOUR DELAY, 1/29/26 and 1/30/26 // Mechanicsburg Area School District will operate on a two-hour delay schedule on Thursday, January 29, and Friday, January 30, 2026. Based on several factors—including cold temperatures, the need to navigate snow piles, and the benefits of increased daylight—a delay was the best decision for our students.

Thank you for your patience as we work our way back to a normal school schedule.

❄️💪 A HUGE THANK YOU TO OUR MAINTENANCE & FACILITIES CREWS // Through heavy snowfall and challenging temperatures, our dedicated maintenance and facilities teams have been hard at work clearing parking lots, roads, and sidewalks to ensure our buildings and campuses are safe and ready for the return of our students and staff. They’ll be back at it again today for another round of winter weather cleanup.

Your long hours, teamwork, and commitment do not go unnoticed. We are incredibly grateful for all you do behind the scenes to keep our Wildcat community moving, no matter the weather. THANK YOU. 💜

📸 Special thanks to Erick Hoffman, Director of Facilities, for sharing these photos with us.

❄️ CLOSED // All Mechanicsburg Area School District schools will be CLOSED tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27, 2026. This will be a traditional snow day with no makeup day needed.

Our Facilities Department and local municipalities did an amazing job today, as they worked tirelessly to clear roads, sidewalks, and parking lots throughout the district. Unfortunately, there are still a few trouble spots out there that we'll hopefully see cleared up tomorrow.

Stay safe, Wildcats!

🧤❄️ A SIGN OF THE SEASON // One brave glove. One cozy winter hat. Both waiting patiently on the fence.

If this looks even slightly familiar, consider it your sign to check the lost and found at your child’s school for anything that might be yours. Winter gear has a way of wandering off—and we’d love to see these items make it back home where they belong.

Pro tip: a quick label can help lost items find their way back next time. 💜

🚓💙 LAW ENFORCEMENT APPRECIATION DAY // Today (and every day!), we’re grateful for the strong partnerships we share with law enforcement across our community. Their presence in our schools goes beyond safety—it’s about connection, trust, and meaningful relationships with our students and staff.

A special thank you to Officer Mark, our District Resource Officer, whose steady presence and genuine care help our Wildcats feel supported and safe. From morning fist bumps and catch on the playground to lunchtime check-ins and hallway conversations, these moments matter.

Thank you to all of our law enforcement partners for being an important part of the Wildcat community. Today we celebrate you. Every day we appreciate you.

The Glow Party is coming!

Join us on Friday, January 16th. This year we will be hosting TWO sessions. In order to allow for as many UA students to attend as possible, we are limiting RSVP's to 4 people per family.

The RSVP sign-up will open tonight at 7pm. The sign-up for volunteers is currently open. Please check your email for both links.

If you are attending session 1 (6:00-6:45) please leave promptly at 6:45 so that the gym and parking lot will be cleared in time for Session 2 (7:00-7:45).

If you are attending Session 2, please plan to arrive no earlier than 6:50 to allow time for our Session 1 families to leave the school, allowing spaces to be available for you. Session 2 families may enter the gym no earlier than 7pm.

The Upper Allen and Middle School lots are available for our parents on that night.

💜 WELCOME TO OUR WILDCAT FAMILY // We are excited to welcome Mrs. Elysia Ehrich, who officially joined our team yesterday as Principal of Upper Allen Elementary School. Mrs. Ehrich brings a strong background in education, having served as a learning support teacher and most recently as an assistant principal at Spring Grove High School. Her experience, care for students, and commitment to learning will fit wonderfully within our school community.

Mrs. Ehrich will spend a few days working side by side with Mr. John McIntosh as he prepares for his well-deserved retirement after 38 years in education — a meaningful transition rooted in mentorship, gratitude, and pride.

Please join us in giving Mrs. Ehrich a warm Wildcat welcome as she begins this new chapter with Upper Allen. 💜

👔 UPPER ALLEN UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT // Students and staff at Upper Allen Elementary School held a special spirit day by dressing just like Mr. McIntosh — and the smiles said it all. From matching outfits to big laughs, it was a heartfelt (and fun) way to celebrate a principal who has made a lasting impact on so many students and staff.

As Mr. McIntosh prepares to retire after a truly beautiful career in education, our Wildcats are showing their appreciation the best way they know how: together, with joy, gratitude, and a whole lot of school spirit. 🐾💜

📸 Special thanks to staff at Upper Allen for capturing these memories!
